Description

The Trix 22975 reproduces the Northlander from Ontario Northland Railway as it ran in the 1980s: four heavy metal coaches painted in light blue and yellow, carrying number 1981 and all the digital features you would expect from an exclusive club edition. A consist that arrives ready to run, with sound, controllable lighting and 113 cm of train over the couplers.

A train with history on both sides of the Atlantic

The prototype has an unusual journey: born in Europe in 1957 as the RAm TEE, it crossed the Atlantic in 1978 to become the Northlander on the Ontario Northland Railway, then returned to Europe in 1998. Trix has chosen precisely its Canadian period — Era IV, 1980s — for this club edition, with the distinctive light blue and yellow livery that defines it in that era. The train number reproduced is 1981.

Digital with sound: mfx+ decoder and independent lighting functions

The set includes an mfx+ decoder compatible with DCC and RailCom. Sound functions cover the diesel engine, high and low horns, conductor's whistle, brakes, compressors, train announcements, door closing, sanding, generator sounds and rail joints, among others. Lighting is equally comprehensive: triple front headlights and double red tail lights with directional change, interior lighting in the compartment coach, dining car and seating coach, cab lights, engine room lights and classification lights at both ends — all independently controllable with warm white and multicolour LEDs. Traction is handled by a flywheel motor driving four axles via cardan shafts with traction tyres. The coaches are connected via Scharfenberg couplers and special multipolar couplers with continuous electrical connection between units.

Four pieces, 113 cm and a minimum radius of 437.5 mm

At 113 cm in total length, the Northlander takes up a generous stretch of track and needs a minimum radius of 437.5 mm to run comfortably, though Trix notes it can operate on Radius 1 without observing the loading gauge profile. On a layout, the length of the consist and the visual coherence of four coaches in the same livery give the train a presence that is hard to achieve with a consist built up piece by piece. Entering a station or sweeping through a curved section of track, those 113 cm of light blue and yellow read as a single recognisable unit, with the visual rhythm of a long-distance passenger multiple unit.
