The Roco 76312 reproduces a two-axle tank wagon with the commercial lettering of Butan-Schweiz one of those private wagons that ran integrated into freight consists on the Swiss Federal Railways during Eras II and III. Registration number 535355 and the technical inscriptions on the underframe tare weight, load capacity and inspection dates place the model in that mid-twentieth-century period when wagons belonging to energy companies such as Primagaz were registered under SBB to operate on the national network.
Details that show on the layout
The model features a brakeman's platform (Bremserbühne) with handrail and scaled handbrake wheel, delicate plastic access ladders for the top walkway and open-tread catwalks. The tampo printing reproduces the «Butan-Schweiz» inscription in period-correct typography. The coupler follows the NEM 362 standard with short-arm kinematics, and the box includes a set of optional Fleischmann Profi couplers for those who prefer a tighter connection between wagons.
Confirmed technical specifications
Length over buffers is 101 mm. Minimum curve radius is 358 mm, equivalent to the R1 curve of Roco and Fleischmann. The wagon is designed for DC two-rail track; for use on three-rail AC layouts (Märklin), the factory wheelsets must be replaced with the Fleischmann 6560 set.
Role within a consist
Its compact size makes this wagon a good fit for layouts with limited space as well as shunting scenes on industrial branch lines. Within an Era II-III SBB freight train, it adds load variety without breaking the coherence of the consist. Placed between boxcars or flat wagons, it helps the formation read as a mixed freight exactly the kind of working train that was common on Swiss secondary lines during those years.
