The Siemens Class 1216, known as the Taurus III, is one of the most recognisable electric locomotives in contemporary European rail traffic. Fleischmann reproduces it in N scale under reference 7570024 with ?D number 1216 903-5, wearing the blue and white Najbrt corporate livery that identifies the Czech operator on its long-distance services. A model released in the fourth quarter of 2024, arriving fully equipped from the outset.
Digital with sound straight from the box
The 7570024 features a Next18 (NEM 662) decoder with integrated sound and speaker, allowing the characteristic motor sounds and horns to be reproduced directly on the track. The LED lighting is directional three front lights and two rear lights and in digital mode the headlight and tail lights can be switched individually. The four roof pantographs are functional, a detail that carries considerable visual weight on an N scale locomotive.
Mechanics and track geometry
Drive is distributed across all four axles, supported by two traction tyres for stable grip on gradients and curves. At 122 mm long with a minimum radius of 192 mm, it fits comfortably into medium-sized N scale layouts without demanding particularly generous geometry. The NEM 355 coupler with KK kinematics makes connecting Era VI passenger coaches straightforward, with no additional work required.
In a consist and on the layout
Leading a formation of EuroCity coaches in N scale, the 1216 903-5 delivers a reading of contemporary international rail that few locomotives of this size achieve so naturally. The Najbrt livery, with its blue and white contrast, gives the consist a strong presence even on longer layouts where rolling stock tends to get lost visually. For anyone building a layout focused on Central European Era VI traffic, this ?D Taurus III is a straightforward and compelling choice.
