The TGV Paris Sud-Est is one of the most iconic trains in French railway history, and Azar Models has brought it to Z scale with a technically solid offering. This analogue version, wearing the original orange livery designed by Jacques Cooper in 1980, reproduces number 46 in Epoch IV and is ready to run straight out of the box on DC current.
A complete TGV in seven pieces
The set includes two power cars one motorised and one dummy , two end coaches in first and second class (R1 and R8), two intermediate coaches (R2 and R7) and the bar coach (R4), for a total length of 690 mm. The motor features a coreless rotor with flywheel and four driven axles, with current pickup on all axles. The chassis is metal and the couplers are of the elongated type, designed to maintain visual continuity through curves. The LED lighting is reversible white at the front, red at the rear and interior lighting is included in all coaches.
Analogue with digital readiness
The AZAR-T01-OR1A version runs on DC current with a starting voltage of approximately 2V, and comes fitted with a DH05 decoder socket, allowing the unit to be digitalised at any time without further modifications. Wheel standards are NEM, and the minimum radius of 195-200 mm makes the train compatible with compact Z scale layouts.
On the layout, a consist with its own identity
In Z scale, 690 mm of orange train on track makes a very clear visual statement: the original TGV PSE livery, with its characteristic aerodynamic lines, turns any straight section or station into a recognisable scene from 1980s France. The set is expandable with the complementary three-coach pack, and two rakes can be coupled together for those who want to work with longer consists. For an Epoch IV layout with SNCF rolling stock, this set delivers the visual rhythm of a complete high-speed train from day one, with nothing else needed.
