The Trix 24326 set brings together two B4p compartment passenger coaches from the Deutsche Reichsbahn, reproduced in HO scale with individual running numbers 440-203 and 440-205. Both coaches belong to Epoch III and are based on prototypes from the 1930s designed for fast suburban services — the so-called Ruhrschnellverkehr — giving them a distinctive silhouette that is immediately recognisable in any consist from that period.
Construction and finish
The handrails on the access doors and the steps at each end of the coaches are fitted separately, adding depth and three-dimensionality to the models. The interior includes integrated details that are particularly appreciated when the consist runs through illuminated sections of the layout. Standard NEM coupler pockets with a close-coupling mechanism make it easy to integrate these coaches into an existing train, reducing the gap between vehicles and improving the overall visual flow of the consist.
Prepared for interior lighting
Although the coaches are supplied without lighting, they are ready to accept the Trix 66700 kit — two units required for the complete set — allowing interior lighting to be added at a later stage without any structural modifications. This is especially useful on layouts with station areas or tunnels, where interior lighting makes a real difference to the atmosphere of the scene.
Role in an Epoch III consist
With a total length of 512 mm, the set adds a significant extension to the train without requiring any additional pieces. In an Epoch III consist headed by a DR locomotive, these two compartment coaches help the train gain length and visual balance: the close-coupling mechanism keeps the gap between coaches tight, and the consistency between running numbers and operator reinforces the impression of a complete train. They also work well as a display pair in a cabinet, where the handrail and step details can be appreciated up close.
