The Trix 22303 reproduces the ÖBB Reihe 2070 diesel locomotive, numbered 2070 005-0, in Epoch V. The model features a die-cast metal chassis and body, giving it a weight and track presence you notice from the very first run. The bell-shaped motor with flywheel delivers smooth, controlled movement especially at low speeds, where this type of unit typically operates.
Construction and technical features
All four axles are powered, and the model includes two traction tyres for improved grip on gradients or when hauling a load. LED lighting switches automatically between white and red depending on the direction of travel, and the all-round metal handrail adds a visual detail that really stands out in HO scale. The 8-pin NEM digital interface allows a DCC decoder to be fitted without any modifications, though the model runs straight out of the box on analogue DC two-rail track.
A shunter with its own character on the layout
The Reihe 2070 is a shunting locomotive, and on the layout that means a unit that works best around stations, marshalling yards or industrial sidings rather than at the head of a long consist. At 165 mm in length, it fits comfortably into tight spaces and brings movement and activity to scenes that would otherwise feel static. On an Epoch V layout with ÖBB rolling stock, it completes the look of a depot or freight terminal with real conviction.
Compatibility and use
The two-rail DC system and standard NEM interface make the 22303 compatible with most digital command stations on the market. For those who want to start in analogue and move to digital later, this model allows that transition without changing locomotives. The AC version for three-rail track is available under the Märklin 37647 reference.
