Trix ref. 22300 reproduces the ICE 3 Baureihe 406 in NS livery the Dutch operator as originally conceived from 1999 for cross-border services. This is a single production run from 2002, which gives it a history of its own within the Trix catalogue. On the track, 1422 mm of length speaks for itself: this train needs space, and it knows exactly how to fill it.
Five coaches, one single unit
The consist comprises a first-class end car 406.0, a first-class transformer coach 406.1, the central restaurant car 406.3 in second class, a second transformer coach 406.6 and the second-class end car 406.5. All five are joined with close couplers and conductive electrical connections between them, ensuring a clean visual read of a complete train with no gaps or irregularities between coaches. Interior lighting is integrated throughout the entire consist.
System and drive
The model runs on DC with a NEM digital interface, allowing later conversion to digital without any destructive modification. The motor features a flywheel for smoother running, and the intermediate coach adds two further powered axles to the drive system. Four traction tyres complete the grip. In analogue mode, current feed is managed directionally through the leading end car.
On the layout, a train that demands the spotlight
A multiple unit of this length transforms any track plan into something closer to a real main line. On a scene with a long platform or in a display loop, the five coupled coaches generate that sense of a train in motion that shorter consists simply cannot achieve. For anyone working with Era V rolling stock who wants to represent Dutch high-speed traffic, this unit delivers a specific and instantly recognisable reference within the collection.
