The Roco 6600180 set brings together three Uacs silo wagons from the Raj series of Czech State Railways ?D in HO scale. All three wagons share the industrial grey typical of the Czech technical freight fleet, with operator and industry logos and warning panels printed in high resolution. Each unit carries its own individual UIC registration number a detail that prevents visual repetition when all three wagons run together in the same consist.
Raj silo wagons: four silos, pneumatic discharge and Era VI
The UIC Uacs classification describes a specialist four-axle bogie wagon fitted with a pneumatic discharge system and authorised to run in freight consists at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The Raj wagons as they are known in Czech railway circles were built to carry dry powdered goods that require complete protection from moisture. On the layout, their four vertical cylindrical-spherical silos give them an unmistakable silhouette that breaks the visual monotony of a conventional freight consist without losing coherence with the rest of the technical rolling stock.
Factory detail: etched parts, pipework and KK-Kinematik
Roco has developed the tooling with separately applied parts and precision metal photo-etched components: perimeter handrails, grab handles, access ladders and open longitudinal roof grilles that let light through. The three-dimensional pneumatic pipework on the underframe comes fully assembled from the factory. The NEM 362 couplers incorporate the KK-Kinematik mechanism, which keeps the wagons close together on straight track and opens just enough clearance on curves for clean negotiation from a 358 mm radius. Polished metal wheels with fine flange profile and low-friction bearings complete the standard two-rail DC factory configuration.
Three wagons, one consist: how they fit into the layout
At 498 mm total length when coupled, the three Raj wagons occupy a substantial stretch of track and work best as a homogeneous block rather than as individual units. In a yard scene or industrial area, the set delivers that block train feel that is hard to achieve with mixed wagon types. For those running on Märklin three-rail AC, conversion requires replacing the original axles with the Roco 40196 set, not included.
