The NizzaParis express was one of the most recognisable long-distance services operated by the SNCF during the 1970s. This Minitrix N scale set captures that consist in Era IV, with a three-coach formation combining two 2nd class B10 coaches and a composite 1st class coach with luggage section A7Dd. The era-typical two-tone livery lower green band and upper grey/cream gives the set an immediate visual coherence on any layout.
A three-coach consist with real railway logic
The choice of body moulds is deliberate: the A7Dd, with its postal van and luggage compartment, was a regular feature at the head or tail of long-distance expresses, while the B10s handled the bulk of the passengers. Together, the three coaches measure 459 mm coupled buffer to buffer a length that in N scale works comfortably on medium-sized layouts without losing the feel of a complete train. On a station scene, the formation fills the platform naturally and conveys the rhythm of a 1970s passenger express.
Construction and mechanics
Minitrix describes this set as new tooling (Neukonstruktion), with improvements over previous generations: engraved handrails, defined ventilation grilles and flush window frames. The close coupling combines NEM 355 pockets with KK-Kinematik mechanism, which draws the gangways between coaches closer on straight sections. The turned metal axles feature centre insulation for low friction, compatible with analogue DC and with DCC and Selectrix digital environments without modification. The minimum operating radius is 192 mm (R1), though the set looks its best on wider curves. All three coaches come factory-prepared to accept the interior LED lighting kit reference 66616, sold separately.
Layout integration and consist building
On an Era IV layout with French infrastructure, this set works well as the core of a long-distance passenger consist. The two B10s can flank the A7Dd or be arranged in any order to suit the service being modelled. Adding interior lighting with kit 66616 gives the formation real presence in night scenes or covered station settings. The manufacturer notes compatibility with the Trix 16005 locomotive (BB 22200) to complete the consist with matching traction.
