Some RC buggies are bought for a weekend run and some are bought to stay. The WLtoys 104001 clearly belongs to the second group. Its machined aluminium alloy chassis, independent hydraulic shock absorbers with silicone oil and 4WD drivetrain with cardan shafts and zinc gears place it at a structural level that few models in its price range can match. And all of that in 1/10 scale, where size already starts to speak for itself.
An RTR buggy that needs no excuses to hit the track
The 104001 arrives ready to run from the first moment: it includes the 2.4 GHz proportional digital transmitter, the 7.4V 2200 mAh Li-Po battery, the USB balance charger and the metal cross wrench for basic adjustments. There is nothing else to find before you start. The transmitter operates digitally with a range of over 100 metres, giving real room to manoeuvre on open circuits or in wide spaces. The 2200 mAh battery delivers generous run time for demanding driving sessions, and the balance charger looks after the charge cycles to extend cell life.
Metal chassis, hydraulic suspension and full-time 4WD
What sets the 104001 apart from more basic entry-level buggies is its structural architecture. The lower chassis plate and suspension towers are machined from aluminium alloy, eliminating chassis flex under hard acceleration and absorbing direct impacts without compromising geometry. The four independent hydraulic shock absorbers with silicone oil and aluminium caps do the rest: the buggy holds its grip on rough terrain, handles jump landings well and responds with stability at speeds close to 45 km/h. The chassis dimensions 402 mm length, 255 mm width and 162 mm height give a real presence on the ground, consistent with the 1/10 scale.
Built to grow: brushless ready without swapping the chassis
One of the reasons the 104001 makes so much sense as a first serious purchase is its compatibility with brushless motors. The chassis and drivetrain are over-engineered relative to the stock 550 brushed motor, which means the system can handle a brushless upgrade without any structural modifications.
