The Trix 29003 is a third class passenger coach from Trix's classic Bavarian series — one of those references that time has turned into a sought-after piece among Epoch I modellers. It represents passenger rolling stock of the Königlich Bayerische Staatseisenbahnen, registered CCü 13063 MÜNCHEN, in HO scale and analogue DC two-rail. Now discontinued, it circulates mainly among collectors and specialist dealers in quality vintage material.
A Bavarian Epoch I coach with its own identity
The body reproduces the dark olive green livery characteristic of Bavarian regional rolling stock from the early twentieth century, with pad-printed lettering that includes institutional legends, class markings on the doors and the Bavarian coat of arms. On the ash grey curved roof, individual per-compartment ventilators are clearly visible — a detail that firmly places the model in the period before forced ventilation systems. The interior compartments are visible through the rectangular windows with raised frames, giving the coach a sense of inhabited interior even on the display shelf.
Confirmed technical data
The chassis is two-axle metal with NEM 310 standard profile wheels, suitable for two-rail DC systems. Length over buffers is 141 mm. The coupling is NEM 362 type with spring-regulated short-coupling kinematics, maintaining a tight gap on straight track and adapting dynamically on curves to avoid buffer conflicts. In a multi-coach consist, this keeps the train looking compact and natural throughout.
Part of a complete Bavarian consist
This coach was conceived as part of a Trix production run comprising references 29001, 29002, 29003 and the van 29004, designed to recreate a coherent Bavarian passenger train on the layout. Bringing all four coaches together in a single train is today a collecting exercise that takes patience, but the result — an Epoch I consist with recognisable Bavarian identity from end to end — makes the search worthwhile. In a station scene with period architecture, this kind of formation delivers a railway atmosphere that is hard to achieve with more modern rolling stock.
