The Roco 77005 brings together two Uacs silo wagons from Czech Railways in a single set, ready to run from the moment you open the box. Each wagon carries a different operational running number, making it easy to build homogeneous block trains where no two consecutive wagons share the same number a detail that really shows when the consist grows longer.
The Czech 'Rajky' in HO scale
Uacs wagons are popularly known in the Czech Republic as Rajky, a nickname that reflects how deeply rooted these vehicles are in bulk freight traffic. With their four large spherical silos mounted on Y25 bogies and a pneumatic discharge system through underframe pipes, these wagons specialise in carrying pulverised materials such as fine cement, quicklime or industrial ash. The set reproduces the rolling stock of Epoch V, the period when ?D operated these formations on a large scale following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
Construction detail and factory equipment
Unlike older references, the 77005 arrives fully assembled: freestanding perimeter handrails, three-dimensionally moulded blow pipes, open upper walkways with a perforated grille effect, end ladders, handbrake wheels and lower pneumatic valves all come fitted from the factory. The short elastic NEM 362 coupler (KK-Kinematik) reduces buffer gap on straight track and widens it on curves, keeping a natural appearance throughout. Minimum passing radius is 358 mm and the running gear is factory DC, with the option to convert to AC using the Roco 40196 axle set.
Role within the consist
Two wagons are a solid starting point, but the logic of block trains invites you to expand the formation. Placed in the middle of a longer consist, the Uacs wagons from the 77005 add rhythm and uniformity to the whole; at the head or tail, they work as a visual reference for the type of load the train is carrying. On a layout with an industrial or cement works area, these wagons help the scene gain coherence without needing elaborate scenery.
