The Roco 76314 reproduces the Rmrso 31 low-sided flat wagon of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in HO scale, set in Era IV of the 1970s and 1980s in the former GDR. This reference corresponds to the variant without side stanchions fitted Ausführung ohne Rungen leaving the load deck completely open so the modeller can place their own cargo on top without any height or side restrictions.
A GDR flat wagon with a deck ready to load
The load surface reproduces the texture of wooden planks with grain, joints and raised bolt heads, in a brown tone evoking the treated timber of DR freight stock. The perimeter stanchion pockets remain visible and accessible with no stanchions fitted, making it easy to secure bulky loads. The side printing includes the DR institutional logo, running number 21 50 303 5419-9 and weight data, all printed in high resolution and legible under a magnifier on the black underframe.
Mechanics and running gear for DC
The wagon features KK-Kulisse coupling kinematics with NEM 362 standardised pockets, which closes the buffer gap on straight track and opens on curves for smoother running. The confirmed minimum radius is 358 mm. The metal insulated wheelsets are factory-configured for two-rail DC systems. For operation on three-rail AC Märklin layouts, the original axles must be replaced with the Fleischmann 6560 AC conversion set, not included as standard. Length over buffers is 139 mm.
How it fits into an Era IV freight consist
In a GDR freight consist, a flat wagon without stanchions like this one adds visual variety alongside covered wagons or hoppers, and opens the door to a load that becomes a narrative element of the scene: agricultural machinery, industrial coils or heavy vehicles. Slotted between higher-volume wagons, it breaks the monotony of the train without losing the visual coherence of an Era IV freight working under the DR.
