The Roco 6200131 is the second set in the Nebenbahnzug DR series, designed to expand the regional branch line train that begins with Set 1 (Roco 6200130). Three Deutsche Reichsbahn passenger coaches in Epoch III that together give the consist the length and visual variety a secondary line train from post-war East Germany demands.
Three coaches, three personalities within the same train
The consist combines two second-class Bip coaches one with an open boarding platform and one in standard version with a three-axle B3 compartment coach fitted with a raised guard's brake van. This last vehicle features a centre axle with free lateral displacement, allowing it to negotiate curves from 358 mm radius without difficulty. All three coaches carry NEM 362 couplers with short kinematics (KK), reducing the visible gap between buffers on straight track and reinforcing the impression of a tightly coupled train. Interiors seats and partitions come factory-fitted.
Lighting-ready, ready to run
All three coaches accept the later fitting of interior lighting kits: two units of reference Roco 40361 for the Bip coaches and one unit of reference Roco/Fleischmann 6469 for the B3. Lighting is not included, but the structure is already prepared to receive it. For three-rail AC layouts, the original axles can be replaced using references Roco 40196 or 6560.
How it fits into the layout
Combined with Set 1, this set allows you to form a branch line train with six coaches and a total length that gives real visual weight to the platform of a secondary station. The B3 coach with guard's van, placed at the rear of the consist, rounds off the composition with a detail that any DR Epoch III enthusiast will immediately recognise. In a rural station scene, the alternation between the open-platform Bip coaches and the B3 compartment coach adds variety without breaking the coherence of the whole.
