The Minitrix 15372 set brings together three SNCF passenger coaches in N scale to reproduce part of the Orient Express D262/263 formation in Epoch IV. With a first-class A9, a second-class B10 and a mixed B7D with a van section, the consist gains typological variety from the outset, with no need to hunt for individual coaches to give the train coherence.
A formation designed to grow
Minitrix conceived this reference as part of a modular three-block system: sets 15371, 15372 and 15373 are designed to couple together and recreate the complete D262/263 formation. The 15372 occupies the central block of that formation, meaning it fits naturally between the other two sets without breaking visual continuity or the coherence of the SNCF livery. On a layout with a long main line or a station trackplan, all three sets together deliver the look of a long-distance express that is hard to achieve with individual coaches.
Confirmed technical details
All three coaches feature turned metal axles insulated for direct current (DC, 2-rail) and NEM 355 couplers with the KK-Kinematik kinematic mechanism, which keeps the buffers running very close together on straight track and allows them to swing naturally through curves. The bodyshell uses a specific mould variant that reproduces the smaller access windows characteristic of this SNCF structural batch. Wheels are fine-scale profile. The chassis and interior roof of all three coaches come factory-prepared for the later fitting of interior LED lighting, compatible with the Minitrix 66616 board.
On the layout and in the display case
At 459 mm total length over buffers, the three coaches together already make a considerable impression on the layout. Each unit measures approximately 153 mm, a proportion that in N scale allows them to fit into layouts with moderate space without sacrificing the feel of a long train. In a platform scene, the alternation between the A9, B10 and B7D adds visual rhythm to the consist: the van at the rear, the first-class coach opening or closing the formation depending on the direction of travel, and the B10 providing continuity throughout. For those who want to display the formation in a cabinet, the Epoch IV SNCF livery maintains a chromatic coherence that makes all three coaches read as a single recognisable unit.
