Märklin reference 48812 is an HO scale freight wagon set produced in 2010 as a one-time exclusive edition for Insider programme members. It recreates the rail freight operations of Spangenberg-Werke GmbH of Hamburg as they looked in the early 1950s, during the Deutsche Bundesbahn Era III period. The set combines rolling stock with truck-and-trailer models, delivering a complete and coherent loading scene.
A set built to recreate 1950s freight transport
The set includes a Gl Dresden covered wagon and a BTh Offenbach container flat wagon, accompanied by three individually numbered Ekrt containers that can be removed from the wagon. Two truck-and-trailer models complete the picture: a Kälble and a Krupp Mustang, both combining metal and plastic construction. A numbered edition certificate is also included. Total wagon length reaches 27.3 cm, with the Gl Dresden at 13.9 cm and the BTh Offenbach at 11.4 cm. The system is analogue DC with standard 700580 wheelsets, also compatible with Trix-Express.
Removable containers and truck models
The three Ekrt containers carry different numbers and can be lifted off the flat wagon, allowing you to vary the visual composition or place them alongside the trucks in a loading scene. The Kälble and Krupp Mustang truck-and-trailer models are built in a combination of metal and plastic, adding weight and detail to the scene independently of any track.
Layout integration and freight scene
On an Era III freight-themed layout, this set lends itself naturally to a loading or unloading scene beside a yard or goods dock. The trucks with trailers act as a transition element between the track and the surrounding urban or industrial environment, while the wagons extend a DB freight consist with period accuracy. As a one-time Insider production, the set also holds genuine appeal for the collector's display cabinet.
