The Märklin 43749 set expands the NS ICE 3 consist with three intermediate coaches fitted with interior lighting and special close couplers. Designed as an Ergänzungswagen-Set to complement the base model 37781, this set adds presence and length to the layout without breaking the visual coherence of the Dutch high-speed convoy in Era V.
Three coaches that extend the rhythm of the ICE 3
The set includes a Stromrichterwagen 406.2, a Mittelwagen 406.8 and a Stromrichterwagen 406.7, adding 84.1 cm to the overall consist. The close couplers with sliding guide keep the gaps between coaches tight and uniform something that in a high-speed consist makes the difference between a train that looks complete and one that doesn't. Interior lighting is powered through the train's continuous electrical connection, with no batteries or additional installation required.
Confirmed technical data
The system is 3-rail AC, compatible with the Märklin platform. The road numbers reproduced are 406.2, 406.8 and 406.7, corresponding to real ICE 3 units operated by NS. Scale is HO (1:87) and the era represented is V.
Layout integration and consist building
Adding these three coaches to the base model 37781 transforms the convoy visually: the train goes from feeling like a shortened prototype to having the sense of a complete unit that defines ICE trains in service. On a layout with long platform stations or a track plan that lets the train run in view for several metres, the extra length these coaches provide reinforces the visual scale of the whole scene and gives the railway setting more weight.
