Tamiya's TS-14 Black spray is a regular reference on any serious workbench. With 100ml of synthetic lacquer in a gloss finish, it is designed to cover large model surfaces evenly and without fuss. Gloss black is one of those colours that appears in almost every project: backgrounds, bodywork, structural details or base coats before working with acrylics or enamels.
Fast-drying synthetic lacquer for scale models
What sets the TS-14 apart within Tamiya's spray range is its formulation as a synthetic lacquer with a short curing time. That means work can resume sooner, without waiting hours between coats. Once the base coat is dry, it is compatible with acrylic paints and enamels for subsequent detail work, making it a solid starting point for multi-step projects. According to the manufacturer's notes, the spray provides enough coverage for two or three 1/24 scale car bodies.
Compatibility and workbench use
The TS-14 works on plastic, metal, wood, glass and ceramic. It is not suitable for polycarbonate or Lexan bodies, which makes this a relevant detail when working with radio-controlled models. For conventional plastic kits, collector cars with touch-ups or general scale modelling projects, it is a straightforward option with no surprises. The can measures 64 x 117 x 64mm and weighs 140g a manageable format that fits easily in the spray drawer. As an aerosol lacquer product, it is classified as hazardous goods and is not suitable for children under 14. Shake well before use.
A gloss black that works well with other Tamiya products
In a display of scale cars, gloss black has a very defined presence: it absorbs light, sharpens lines and gives a character quite different from matt black. For projects where the final finish matters, the TS-14 is one of those references that gets repeated because it delivers. And when the spray does its job well as a base, the rest of the painting process flows more smoothly.
