The Roco 6600163 brings together two four-axle tank wagons in the colours and corporate markings of Austrian oil company ÖMV, registered under ÖBB and set in Era IV. Each wagon carries a slightly different paint scheme and lettering, a detail that breaks the visual uniformity and gives the pair the feel of a freight train with its own history where each tanker has accumulated its own wear and use over the years.
Two tankers with their own identity within the same consist
The differences between the two units go beyond aesthetics: in a freight consist, that variation in markings and finish between wagons of the same type is exactly what happened in real railway operations during the 1970s and 80s. The articulated bogies ensure smooth running through curves, and the factory-applied details open walkways, side ladders and simulated brake handwheels give each tanker real visual substance straight out of the box.
Confirmed technical data
Each wagon measures approximately 142 mm individually, adding up to 284 mm for the coupled set with buffers included. The coupler follows the NEM 362 standard with a short Roco head, interchangeable with other compatible systems. The set is configured for two-rail analogue and digital DC. For use on Märklin three-rail AC systems, Roco offers the AC wheelset under reference 40183.
On the layout: visual weight and consist continuity
A pair of four-axle tank wagons already adds length and rhythm to any HO freight train. Extend the consist with more units of the same type and the variation in lettering between wagons reinforces the block train feel without the whole thing looking repetitive. In a yard scene or industrial siding, these two ÖMV tankers work equally well in motion or at rest, with enough detail to hold up under close inspection.
