The Eanos type is one of the most recognisable freight wagons in the contemporary European fleet, and Rail Cargo Austria operates a significant number of them in its heavy bulk freight services. This Roco set brings together three HO scale examples finished in the characteristic satin technical grey of the Austrian fleet, with the red and white RCA corporate logo pad-printed on the sides. Each wagon carries an individual differentiated UIC number, avoiding visual repetition when all three run together in the same consist.
A set built for long, homogeneous consists
The idea behind this set is straightforward: make it easy to form block trains (Ganzzug) with visual coherence from the very first wagon. All three Eanos wagons share the same finish, operator and era, so they slot naturally into an Era VI freight consist without having to hunt down compatible individual units. On a layout with a decent run of track, three wagons at 181 mm each add up to 543 mm coupled already a solid presence on the line. Extend the set with more units of the same type and the effect of a real freight train becomes even more convincing.
Confirmed technical data
The wagons ride on independent articulated Y25 bogies with insulated low-friction metal wheels, and the ends feature NEM 362 pockets with short-coupling kinematics (KK-Kinematik), which keeps the buffers tight on straight track and opens slightly on curves to prevent body collisions. Minimum passing radius is 358 mm (Radius 1). The factory system is 2-rail DC; conversion to the Märklin 3-rail AC system requires replacing the axles with the Roco 40196 set, not included.
Layout integration and consist building
In a yard scene or industrial area, these three Eanos wagons work equally well in motion or standing alongside a loading facility. The moulding reproduces the vertical structural reinforcements, the double side-swinging doors and the technical steps details that bring the whole thing to life without needing anything extra. For anyone building an Austrian Era VI consist, this set is a solid starting point: three wagons ready to run, with a unified finish and individual numbers that add variety to the consist without breaking its identity as a unit.
