The Piko 58224 brings together three Eurofima FS coaches in a single set: one first class and two second class, each carrying its own individual running number. Eurofima FS Coaches in Epoch IV
The Eurofima coaches were a shared initiative among several European railway administrations to modernise their passenger fleets, and FS introduced them on long-distance services during Epoch IV. On the layout, this type of express passenger rolling stock pairs naturally with electric or diesel locomotives from the same period. Together, the three coaches already span 909 mm of track, giving the train a real presence on the layout without needing to add more vehicles straight away.
Confirmed technical details
The set runs on direct current (DC) and the coaches feature NEM couplers with a short coupling pocket, which reduces the gap between vehicles and improves the look of the consist on curves. Minimum operating radius is 358 mm. Interior lighting is not included as standard but can be fitted later using Piko references #56294 or #56295, allowing coaches to be equipped gradually. Replacement wheels for three-rail (AC) systems are available under reference 56061.
How it fits the layout
Three coaches from the same operator and the same series already form a recognisable consist: the first class coach at the front or rear, and the two second class coaches completing the train. If the layout recreates an Italian setting from the seventies or eighties, this set brings coherence to the platform and the track plan without hunting for individual pieces.
