Some pieces don't come from the general catalogue they come from a specific moment. This Minitrix SSml flat wagon was delivered in 2005 to Trix Profi-Club members as that year's exclusive edition, and its load a reproduction of a Bavarian Maibaum fixed horizontally on a wooden frame takes it well beyond ordinary rolling stock. The historical prototype corresponds to the K.Bay.Sts.B. SSml Flachwagen, documented from 1901 onwards, and the model reproduces it in Era I with registration 80441 Augsburg.
A club piece with its own identity
The black chassis finish carries service inscriptions, loading gauge markings and geographical assignment, all pad-printed with precision. The Fachwerk bogies, typical of the early twentieth century, and the grey spoked wheels in turned metal reinforce the historical coherence of the whole. At one end of the wagon, the brakeman's cab Bremserhaus is reproduced in detail. The Maibaum load features painted details evoking the festive imagery of Bavarian villages, and the original box includes insertable stanchions to optionally secure the cargo along the sides of the chassis.
Construction and running
The main frame is die-cast metal, providing the weight needed for stable running in N scale particularly with a load of some height like the Maibaum. The short KK-Kinematik coupler with NEM 355 pocket allows it to be integrated into consists with tight curves without compromising the look of the train. As passive unpowered rolling stock, it runs without interference on both analogue DC layouts and digital DCC installations.
On the layout, a presence that stops the eye
In an Era I consist, this wagon works as a natural focal point: the 106 mm length and the vertical profile of the Maibaum create a visual scale that breaks the uniform rhythm of boxcars. Placed at the centre of a freight train or as a standalone piece in a station scene, it evokes the feeling of a special transport the kind that used to draw curious onlookers to the platform. For anyone working with K.Bay.Sts.B. material, or simply looking for a club reference with a story behind it, this 2005 edition carries a weight that goes well beyond its metal chassis.
