The Chartrén was one of the most recognisable services in Spanish railways during the nineties, and MFTrain has brought it to N scale with an unusually high level of documentation: four serie 8000 coaches, each with its own registration number, individual historical background and a consist based on real charter workings from 1991 and 1992. The result is a set that needs no introduction among Renfe Epoch V enthusiasts.
Four coaches, four registration numbers, one real consist
The set includes coaches Z12t-15.501 (ex. BBL-8.222), Z12t-15.502 (ex. BB-8.550), Z12t-15.503 (ex. BB-8.697) and Z12t-15.504 (ex. BB-8.791), all belonging to the 15000 family. Each unit carries its own registration number, making the set directly referenceable to the 43 documented Chartrén charter workings. At 659.6 mm over buffers, the total length allows for a train of real presence even on N scale layouts.
Livery and visual impact on the layout
The decoration reproduces the characteristic Chartrén livery in its plain or parchís version depending on the unit adding chromatic variety within the same consist without breaking its overall coherence. In an Epoch V station scene, the four coaches lined up at the platform immediately convey the atmosphere of a special service: the visual rhythm of the train is instantly recognisable to any Spanish railway enthusiast of that era.
A set to complete or start a Chartrén consist
At 659.6 mm total length, the set takes up a meaningful stretch of track and gains in naturalness when placed behind a suitable Epoch V locomotive. For those who already have traction in their fleet, these four coaches allow a coherent Chartrén consist to be completed in a single step.
