The V 20 may not lead long consists, but it is exactly the kind of locomotive that makes an Era III layout feel complete. Hobbytrain reproduces it in N scale as DB V 20 038, finished in black, with a length of just 51 mm that makes it ideal for tight spaces.
A DB shunter in N scale
The model features a 5-pole motor with drive on both axles and current pickup on all wheels, giving it smooth, stable running even on short sections or through points. The LED lighting switches ends according to the direction of travel a small but convincing touch in a yard scene. For digital operation, the locomotive includes a NEM 651 interface for an angled decoder, sold separately.
Couplers and compatibility
The model comes with Original coupler H2800-8 and Profi coupler 9545, making it straightforward to integrate with standard N scale rolling stock. Weighing 30 g and running on a B axle configuration, it handles predictably at slow shunting speeds.
Where it fits best on the layout
A V 20 like this works perfectly parked beside an engine shed, nudging a couple of freight wagons towards a loading dock, or simply sitting on a secondary track.
