The Baureihe 110 was for decades one of the most recognisable electric locomotives on the German network, and Fleischmann reproduces it in N scale with number 110 235-9 and the DB AG red livery of Epoch V. At just 104 mm over the rails, reference 7337 takes up little space but never goes unnoticed: the die-cast chassis gives it a weight and presence that you feel both on the layout and in the display cabinet.
Construction and analogue DC performance
The motor features a flywheel, resulting in smoother running with progressive acceleration and braking particularly noticeable in N scale where distances are short. Traction is distributed across 8 axles, two of which carry traction tyres for improved grip. The roof pantographs are sprung, and current pickup can be configured for rail or catenary depending on your installation. The locomotive leaves the factory in analogue DC with no digital interface, though it can be adapted by direct soldering of a DCC decoder.
Lighting and visual detail
The three-colour lighting at both ends switches automatically with the direction of travel a detail that makes a real difference in N scale as the locomotive moves around the layout. The DB AG traffic red of Epoch V is clean and even, consistent with the period it represents. The coupler follows NEM 355 standard, with no KK kinematic mechanism fitted as standard.
On the layout and in a consist
On an Epoch V layout, the BR 110 fits naturally at the head of medium-length passenger consists. Its compact N scale footprint allows it to work on layouts with limited space without losing the look of a mainline electric locomotive. If your module or layout includes catenary, the overhead pickup option adds a welcome touch of visual coherence that enthusiasts with electrified lines will appreciate.
