The Athearn ATH-1577 brings together four 40-foot open hopper cars in HO scale under the Canadian National livery. Each car carries an individual road number sharply printed on the sides CN #330102, #330124, #330149 and #330161 and arrives fully assembled and ready to run straight out of the box.
Factory-applied superdetail on every car
Athearn's Ready-to-Roll line takes this model well beyond a basic plastic shell: hand-applied metal wire grab irons and steps, plus an independently detailed brake system featuring brake cylinder, air reservoir, triple valve, and piping with brackets and tie-down rings. Machined metal wheels with RP25 profile ensure smooth running on both code 83 and code 100 track, while McHenry® magnetic knuckle couplers allow fluid switching throughout the layout.
Removable load and layout compatibility
Each car includes a textured coal load block that can be removed to simulate an empty unit. This opens up the possibility of mixing loaded and empty cars within the same consist adding visual variety without needing to purchase additional items. The recommended minimum turning radius is 18 inches, worth keeping in mind when planning the track where these cars will run.
Four cars, one cohesive consist
On a North American layout, a block of four individually numbered hoppers sharing the same CN livery creates that sense of a real freight train: repeated but differentiated units rolling forward with visual consistency. The ability to mix loaded and empty cars within the same train further reinforces that impression of bulk material traffic in active circulation.
