Some cars need no introduction, and the 1987 Ferrari F40 is one of them. But some versions do deserve a paragraph of their own: this one by Norev, in dark metallic blue, 1/12 scale and limited to 300 units, is exactly that. Not the catalogue red F40. The F40 someone chose with real taste a colour that gives it a different presence, more restrained and at the same time more intense under display lighting.
An F40 that reads differently in dark blue
Dark metallic blue over the F40's bodywork works in a way red simply does not: it lets the lines speak for themselves. The air intakes, the rear wing, the low and taut silhouette of the car all gain in clarity when the colour does not compete with them. At 1/12 scale, every detail has room to exist: the detailed V8 engine visible through the rear screen, the upholstered interior, the doors and bonnet that actually open. Norev has built this model under official Ferrari licence, and the result shows it.
Diecast, limited edition and box contents
The construction is diecast with bright metallic paint. The model arrives in a printed cardboard box, ready for display or exhibition. With only 300 units produced, this dark metallic blue variant is not a reference you will find in every collection. It is one of those pieces that means more the more you know what you are looking at: a 1987 F40 at a scale that lets you appreciate every angle, in a colour not everyone has, in a production run that will not be repeated.
Front row of the display, no question
In a collection of Italian supercars, the F40 in 1/12 earns its place by right. It does not compete with the pieces around it it organises them. The dark metallic blue gives it a character distinct from the usual red, and that difference is exactly what a discerning collector is looking for. A reference to place in the front row and leave there.
